Early in October, two newly-ordained residents celebrated their first Masses at Sant’Anselmo. Fathers Gregorio Carrizal, of Christ in the Desert, and John George, of the Abbey of Saint Gregory the Great, continued the Catholic tradition of blessing those in attendance. Meeting at the Basilica of Sant’Anselmo with the Benedictine and Dominican communities, Pope Leo XIV began the Lenten Stational Church pilgrimage, moving in penitential procession to the Basilica of Santa Sabina.
Roman institutions are accustomed to change, and Sant’Anselmo is currently experiencing a significant amount of it. Our bursar/treasurer is being replaced, and the membership of the Abbot Primate’s Finance Commission is also being renewed.
Dom Geraldo González y Lima OSB, long-serving treasurer of the Benedictine Confederation in Rome, has been elected the fourth Abbot of São Geraldo Abbey in São Paulo, Brazil, returning to his home community.
